Doll #7 - Pregnant Doll - December 18, 2004

My mother-in-law asked that I make a doll for my sister-in-law (her oldest daughter). Well, the due date seemed to change weekly from Christmas to a birthday in April. Yes, frustrating but I got it done. We found out she was pregnant at Thanksgiving so I changed the theme from Teacher Doll to Pregnant Doll.

As you can see, she has a sympathy belly with a small baby made out of the upholstery fabric used for my bears. I got some I would never use for a bear (from Ebay) but perfect for a person. I designed the pattern and it still needs more work - I fiddled with the bear head pattern to get the little ball.

I got the idea for the baby from a creepy cloth doll preemie website. It's creepy in real life but perfect for doll-size - my first doll minded the baby while it's mother was in progress. The baby is probably about 5 to 6 inches stretched out.
